The event at Bayou Oaks at City Park supports Inca Cares. The organization empowers women in underprivileged communities to improve their lives through access to education, clean water, and basic medical care. In 2002, they joined forces with Friends of Lead Free Children in the Dominican Republic to help distribute vitamin supplements that would prevent pregnant women from passing on lead contamination in their bodies to their unborn babies. On the first trip, they recognized a need for basic medical care and supplies year-round. Over the past 20+ years, Inca Cares and Friends of Lead Free Children have provided those supplies and medical care to over 1,000 children and pregnant women yearly.
